These salineras are also known as “salt mines”. They are formed by about 3000 small wells with an average area of about 5 m². In times of drought these are filled with salt water that comes from a natural spring that is above the wells, when the water evaporates the salt crystallizes. When the salt reaches 10 cm of height from the floor will be removed and later bagged in plastic sacks and sent to the markets of the region; today that salt is being iodized so that it is not harmful at the time of consuming it.
